Speaking in a seminar held in Srilanka Foundation to prepare a Project for Waste / Garbage disposal management and dengue eradication yesterday (17), President Maithripala Sirisena said that all work connected with the bill has been completed. This bill will be submitted in parliament next week for its approval. Although the political parties and Medias blamed the government for not conducting the election in time, the government didn’t delay the elections. There were irregularities and shortcomings observed in the earlier laws. Hence, the government was compelled to correct it. That is why the delay. None of the Governments in the past has not taken any permanent solution in respect of waste management in an acceptable manner scientifically. All who set aside politically narrow thinking and thinking according to their conscious will accept it. This government has taken action in respect of waste / garbage disposal permanently, so that the future government’s doesn’t have any problem. He invited the Provincial Secretaries and Town Council commissioners to work with authority empowered. He said, that he has received information, still former chairmen are still dictating terms to council authorities and using official vehicles earlier allocated to them without returning it.
Though it was the tradition to work in line with the thinking of the leadership, now you don’t find such pressures now and all public officers can now discharge their duties. This seminar was arranged under the caption “Maintenance Era-Clean City”. Minister Faizer Mustapha submitted a proposal on Waste disposal management to the president. Provincial Governors, Chief Ministers and Local Govt. Authorities participated in this seminar.
