GMOA Wants the Basis NFTH Acquired by the Govt.
GMOA Secretary Haritha Aluthge told a news conference yesterday the acquisition of Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital (NFTH) was on a lease agreement and there was no transparency in the takeover. Hence , Dr. Fernando or Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne should brief the country about terms and conditions involved in the transaction.
He further said, despite acquisition of NFTH, the SAITM controversy remains intact.
GMOA Assistant Secretary Naveen De Zoysa alleged NFTH was built at a cost of Rs.3.5 billion with a loan of Rs.2 billion granted by a State bank. To settle it, the Govt. has allowed the hospital 10 years period, but the salaries and other costs would be borne by the government. Under these circumstances on what basis was the government claiming that it had taken over the NFTH?, he questioned.
