Presidential  Directive to Sell Big Onions, Potatoes & Rice at  Lower Prices

On Monday(25)  the President Maithripala Sirisena had directed  officials to impose a 100% levy on imported big onions to  ensure  local onion farmers to get fair  prices for their harvest.

On Wednesday (27) President has directed relevant officials to import five metric tonnes of rice and sell big onions, potatoes and rice for lower prices at CWE (Sathosa) outlets.

Latest directive came from  the President during a meeting with government officials and ministers at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday .
