MP Wimal Weerawansa Under Fire for His Destructive Pronouncement on Parliament

MP Weerawansa while speaking at a event in Colombo recently reported to have said, Parliament should be attacked, if harmful legislation were passed in the House. He further said, the government had passed several laws in Parliament that cause damage to the country.
Different people have interpreted his pronouncement in different ways. Someone said that Wimal wants to bomb the parliament while few others said, he wanted to destroy parliament and made a hue and cry. But all wanted the matter to be probed. Even MPs of government as well as opposition reported to have requested the Speaker to get this matter investigated and action taken.
Meanwhile speaking to a media, the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka UR De Silva said action could be taken under the Penal Code against Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa, based on his recent controversial statement regarding the attack on the Parliament. He said such statements could have dangerous consequences adding MP Weerwansa would now have to face a criminal investigation for his off handed statement.The President of BAR Association noted the government has clearly stated that a new Constitution will not be passed anytime soon, so there was no point in opposing it prematurely.
He said the matter must be approached with discernment and groups must refrain from misleading the public.
