AG’s Dept. Committee to Examine Issues Regarding Local Government Polls

A meeting between Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe and the Attorney General took place yesterday at the parliamentary complex. The issues with regard to holding of the local government election were reported to have been discussed at the meeting.  In order to hold the election soon options were suggested. It has been proposed to either hold the election under the old system or to withdraw the petition filed at the court of appeal against the delimitation gazette notification.
Followed by this meeting, a committee comprising 3 lawyers has been appointed to look into the legal issues with regard to holding the local government election, said Attorney General, Jayantha Jayasuriya.
