To facilitate investigation into the allegation made by the Principal of the Badulla Tamil Balika Vidyalaya that she was made to kneel before the Uva Chief Minister, the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission has issued notice to the Secretary of the Ministry of Education of the Uva Province and six others to appear before the Commission on 25th at 1000 hrs.
The investigation is being carried out by the Human Rights Commission regarding two complaints lodged by the Ceylon Teacher’s Union and the Sri Lanka Human Rights Centre. The Uva Province Chief Minister had summoned the Principal to his official residence to inquire the rejection of the enrolment of a student recommended by the Chief Minister. The Uva Chief Minister is charged of verbally abusing and making the Principal kneel when she called on him at his official residence. Accordingly Chief Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake was produced before the Badulla Magistrate’s Court yesterday after surrendering to police and later released on bail. However teacher organizations claim the accused Uva Province Chief Minister should resign from his post.
