With the approval granted by Rajapakshe Government, Avant Garde provided security to foreign ships safeguarding from sea pirates and issuing weapons on rent. It was alleged that Avant Garde accumulated revenue depriving the State and operating in violation of certain rules of Srilanka. There was wide spread criticism about this and the Minister of Law and order has to sacrifice his portfolio. In connection with this President has called for a special meeting with Ministers yesterday. After discussion the Avant Garde issues in length, the Government decided to cancel all agreements signed with Avant Garde and assigned the work to the Srilanka Navy . All weapons in possession of Avant Garde to be handed over to the Srilanka Navy with immediate effect.
