Bus Fares increase from January 2016 ?
Private bus operators associations have announced revision of bus fares by 6 percent as from 1st January 2016. This decision was taken by private bus operators association due to the following reasons:
- Increase in service charges.
- New Tax System
- Increase in Vehicle Import Tax
- Increase in emission test charges.
If no revision is made on above matters by the Government increase in bus fares is unavoidable.Taking into consideration above factors, they have decided to increase bus fares by 6% as from 1st January 2016. This was mentioned in a letter addressed to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance.
To import a new bus increased tax of Rs 25 lakhs need to be paid. On this basis to purchase Rs 45 lakhs worth of a bus, they are compelled to pay Rs 75 lakhs, they stated in their letter.
Bus fares cannot be increased on their own by the private bus operators association . Approval need to be obtained from the relevant Ministry. However, Ministry will be compelled to consider their request and grant alternatives or increase in bus fares to a certain extent. Will bus fares be revised from 1st January 2016?
