Daily COVID-19 cases rising again

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella has advised officials to increase vaccinations against the coronavirus with the rise in infections.

The Minister said while several countries were affected with the increase in the spread of COVID-19, Sri Lanka through a successful vaccination drive was able to control the spread of the virus, adding that such practices must be implemented once again.

Minister Rambukwella issued these directives during a special discussion pertaining to the current health situation in the country including the spread of the coronavirus and dengue fever.

Amidst the current spread of the coronavirus, the Minister said the President has issued directives to prioritize the health sector including combating the spread of COVID-19.

The Minister also issued directives to respective health offices to implement necessary programs at district and regional level through the Medical Office of Health, with special attention to controlling dengue that is also on the rise.

In addition, the Health Minister requested that the public witnessing the Esala Perahera in Kandy, follow strict health practices, in a bid to ensure the tourism industry which is being revived will not be affected.
