The Puttalam police, with the help of residents could safely rescue a schoolgirl who was forcibly taken into a jungle by a man for immoral purposes. The girl, a first-year student of Anagarika Dharmapala Vidyalaya in Puttalama was rescued after about an hour by the police.
The person who is alleged to have kidnapped the child was also arrested by the people later. The schoolgirl was in the habit of returning home after school with her brother in a three-wheeler. However, this man had lured the child to go into the jungle with him.
People who noticed the child being taken by an unidentified person had raised the alarm and alerted the police and together started searching operation for the little girl. The child’s screams led the rescuers to the frightened child.
The miscreant was severely assaulted by the people who found him hiding in the same jungle.
