“Completely Illegal Port City Environmental Assessment Report ”.Sajeewa Chamikara

Organizations concerned with environment  say the new environmental assessment report of the Colombo Port City Development Project is completely illegal.

The environmental impacts have not been properly assessed by the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development, Director of the Environment Conservation Trust Sajeewa Chamikara said.

Supplementary Environmental Impact Assessment Report  contains several weak factors which have not been assessed properly and  understanding of the report cannot be obtained.

Commenting further on the matter, ETC Director Sajeewa Chamikara said legal action will be taken against the Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management,if permission is granted to continue with the project.

He said a majority of state institutions involved in the environmental assessment report of the Colombo Port City Development Project have contributed to conduct illegal activities.
