Six Srilankan Doctors in Kidney Smuggling Racket

In the year 2014, Indian Press revealed kidney smuggling racket from Srilanka.  Ministry of Health ordered an investigation. While the investigation is in progress, The Hindu News Paper exposed another kidney racket yesterday. Six Srilankan doctors attached to four Private hospitals in Srilanka were involved in transplanting Kidneys to Indian citizens. Kidney donors as well as recipients are Indians. Main man in this racket is from Ahmadabad named Suresh Prajapathy, who was arrested by the Indian Police. For this kidney transplant IndianRs 28 to 30 lakhs was charged. While Suresh retains Indian Rs 8 lakhs, balance was given to the hospital. By this racket he has accumulated Indian Rs 3 million at the time of his arrest. With the information extracted from Suresh and his accomplice, Indian Police planned to file case against six Srilankan doctors shortly. Kidneys were purchased from New Delhi, Andra Pradesh and Tamil Naadu poor people. A Telungana Doctor involved in purchasing kidney was arrested by Telungana Police, The Hindu reported.

Followed by this new development. Srilankan Ministry of health has taken certain decisions viz;

  1. Without prior approval of the Ministry No private Hospital can transplant any body part of the anatomy
  2. Until Ministry formulate and introduce certain guidelines in transplanting body parts , all such transplant to foreigners are temporarily suspended
