President Maithripala Sirisena in Germany

President Maithripala Sirisena has undertaken a three days visit to Germany  on invitation extended by German Chancellor.A President of Srilanka is visiting Germany after 40 years .

President Sirisena delivering a statement to media after the official discussions with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, last evening said the new Government is committed in seeking new opportunities to diversify the long standing partnership especially in new areas of cooperation.Further,he invited German investors to take advantage of the increasing economic opportunities in Sri Lanka.

The President said he held a fruitful and productive meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel and discussed ways and means of further strengthening bilateral relations.

He said Sri Lanka and Germany have shared close and cordial relations over many years.

President Maithripala Sirisena during his address expressed his gratitude to the German Government for development assistance provided to Srilanka for more than five decades.

He said the contribution made by Germany in skills development through the establishment of Technical and Vocational Training Institutes in Sri Lanka stand out as an excellent model of cooperation.

The President said the high level trade and investment delegation will participate in a special forum organized to create awareness on Sri Lanka’s economic prospects and potential.

President Sirisena in conclusion noted, it is his first conviction that discussions with the German President and other senior officials of the German government would help the two countries identify shared opportunities in both bilateral and multilateral relations and identify and promote specific priorities and potentials.

The President during his visit will also meet the Federal President, Joachim Gauck and will tomorrow leave for Austria.
