The Pakistani Army Chief General Raheel Sharif was welcomed amidst much fanfare and army honours including a Guard of hour and a guard turnout.
The visiting Chief of Arm staff was welcomed by The Commander of the Sri Lankan Army Lieutenant General Chrishanthe De Silva and also was introduced to the leading officers in the Sri Lankan Army including the Chief of Staff Major Jagath Dias and the Deputy Chief of Staff Major General Mahinda Ambanpola.
Several current and relevant issues were discussed during the cordial meeting and was also briefed in detail regarding a matter of mutual interest by Director General, General Staff Major General B.A. Perera.
The visiting Army Chief was also invited to leave memories by signing the VIP visitors’ book at the Commander’s Office.
Exchange of token mementos between both Army Chiefs brought the formal visit to an end.
During the latter part of the Army chief’s visit to Sri Lanka he made a tour of the Sri Lankan military academy in Diyatalawa.
The Pakistani Chief of Army Staff presented 8 thorough bred horses bred in the world renowned Mona Farms to the academy.
