Power Purchase from Private Sector with Effect from Today

CEB has decided to purchase 100 megawatts power from private  power manufacturers. In this connection  they propose to enter into an agreement  with them  in coming weeks. This agreement will be in  force for one year.

Power generated from this private Embilipitiya Power Station was previously purchased by the CEB and subsequently cancelled. Accordingly in the first Phase, 35 megawatts power will be purchased as from next Monday, 11th April 2016.

If power shortage occurs in future, CEB propose to purchase it from private sector.

At present CEB purchase 2300 megawatts power, which will be increased to 4,600 megawatts. During the last three months, demand for electricity has increased from expected 4 to 5  percent to 7 to 8 percent.

Power plant failures and  transformer blasts in the past were natural disaster or man made is the question Public ask?
