Election of New Asgiri Mahanayake Today
The 22nd Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter of Siyam Nikaya will be elected this afternoon.
The election will take place at the Mangala Uposathagaraya at the Asgiriya temple.
Two Anunayakes of the Asgiriya Chapter, Chief Incumbent of the Muthiyangana Viharaya Warakagoda Gnanaratna Thera and Polonnaruwa Solosmasthanadhipathi Wendurawe Upali Thera have both expressed their willingness to stand for election.
The position of Asgiriya Mahanayake was vacated after the passing away of the former Mahanayake Galagama Sri Attadassi Thera recently.
