New IGP Will Be Known Today
Three Senior Deputy Inspector Generals of Police have been summoned to Parliamentary Constitutional Council today in order to select the Inspector General of Police. Acting IGP SM Wickremesinghe, and senior DIGs Pujitha Jayasundara and Chandana Wickramaratne were summoned by the Parliament General Secretary, Dhammika Dasanayake will accordingly appear before the Constitutional Council.
In the meantime , Senior DIG SM Wickremesinghe was appointed the Acting Inspector General of Police on the 12th of April by President Maithripala Sirisena following the retirement of the 33rd IGP NK Illangakoon earlier last week.
The Constitutional Council’s decision on the country’s 34th IGP will then be notified to President Maithripala Sirisena.
