Increase in Prices of Essential Items as from May 2016

Consumer  Protection National Organization has pointed out  that with the increase in VAT to 15 % as from 2nd May 2016 , not only consumers, but even small scale traders as well will be affected in the form of increased prices.

President of this organization, Ranjith Withnage requested  that health services, whole sale  small trades and Information Technology need to be exempted from this tax.

His organization has sent a letter to the Prime Minister in this connection. Economic  Analysts say that prices of essential items will go up in prices. Further, he said increase in tariffs of water, electricity and telephone cannot be  avoided. Increase in Medicals and educational Institutions is unjustifiable he said.
