European Union Fisheries Ban to be Lifted

The Ministry of Fisheries has confirmed that the ban on Sri Lankan fish exports will be lifted on Wednesday.

The Ministry issuing a statement confirmed that the EU will announce the decision on the 21st of this month.

The EU ban came into effect last year over the failure of the previous government to prevent local fishermen from violating international fishing laws.

However the present administration has ensured that fishermen comply with conditions laid down by the EU, focusing on installation of a vessel monitoring system and the introduction of new fishing laws.
