UPFA request larger quota of MP’s from FPP

The United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) advised President Maithripala Sirisena to increase the number Parliament seats allocated from the First-Past-the-Post system in the proposed electoral reforms.

This request was made at a UPFA Parliamentary group meeting held today (10) at the Parliament complex.

The Cabinet decided to draft the legislation on Friday at a special session held on Monday.

The United National Party (UNP) the Majority faction within the Government were pivotal in proposing on 125 seats based on the FPP system, 75 per Proportional District Representation and 25 through the National list.
