Demand to Take Action Against Thieves

Protecting persons linked to serious acts of bribery and corruption is a criminal breach of the promises given to the people, says convener of the National Movement for a Just Society Prof. Sarath Wijesuriya. He cast serious doubts about the government’s transparency in acting against corruption. People are questioning what is taking place with regard to Wimal Weerawansa and Sajin Vaas Gunawardena and describe is as being very ugly, he said. The Movement urged the government to arrest those responsible for bribery and fraud and ensure justice for the country. Its member Saman Ratnapriya said speedy legal action should be taken against the culprits through the establishment of a special court. Joining the news conference, Dharmasiri Bandaranayake asked parents and teachers not to take children to parliament to watch its proceedings. The conduct of the so-called people’s representatives in the House is not what the people expected of them, he said.
