Postal Trade Union Action Called off

The trade union action launched by the Postal Services Trade Union has been called off.
Convenor of the Union Chinthaka Bandara said the strike was called off after assurances given by authorities pertaining to the demands made by the postal workers.
Chinthaka Bandara said discussions were held with Minister of Posts Abdul Haleem and officials of all authorities involved in providing solutions to issues of postal workers chaired by the Secretary to the Prime Minister.
Accordingly, postal services retuned to normalcy from midnight.
Convener Chinthaka Bandara said operations at the Central Mail Exchange were hampered due to the strike, adding mails gathered at post offices will be distributed within the next two days.
Trade union action was launched on 14 demands including resolving salary anomalies, lack of procedure for recruitment and payment for overtime work.
