European Ban on Fish Exports to Europe Completely Lifted

The European ban was imposed on the grounds that Sri Lanka indulged in “illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.  Total fish export earnings of Srilanka is 267 million dollars in the year of European ban . In  terms of revenue it is about 40% .
After the induction of  good governance, the Sri Lanka government took a number of steps to have the ban lifted.
A national plan was prepared to counter illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.
The EU Commission’s recommendation to revoke the ban had been forwarded to the EU Council in April and this was expected to come into effect by July. Rules and regulations were introduced in line with international norms and new regulations framed for high seas fishing.
The Government Information Department said The European Union has completely lifted the ban on fisheries exports from Sri Lanka.
