Presidential Secretariat Then Officials had Link with Ekneligoda killing

When the case was taken up for inquiry, police made  submissions  to Homagama magistrate’s court yesterday (05).
In their submission  CID said the investigation of telephone conversations showed the main suspect presently in remand custody had telephoned officials of the Presidential Secretariat. Relevant  Dialog SIM cards had been issued to the name of the secretary to the president.
During the final days of the life of abducted journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda in January 2010, the suspect Army intelligence men have had regular communications with the Presidential Secretariat from their Giritale base, according to the CID.
Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake ordered the Army commander to handover documents to the CID with regard to the movements of personnel between Giritale and Akkarapattu camps between August 2006 and April 2010.
He also instructed the prisons superintendent to arrange for the CID to question the first suspect at the prison.
The magistrate rejected a bail application filed by the eight suspects and remanded them further until July 18, and issued summons to the second suspect to appear before courts on that day.
