Constitutional Reforms Operations Committee to Submit Interim Report

The Operations Committee on Constitutional Reforms is to submit an interim report on the proposed constitutional reforms to Parliament.
According to Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Neil Iddawela, the Executive, Devolution of Power and the Electoral System has been the main topics of discussion for the Operations Committee.
The obtaining of ideas from the chief ministers on the constitutional reforms was conducted recently.The ideas of leaders and representatives of political parties which do not represent parliament were also recorded by the committee.
The Public Representations Committee on Constitutional Reforms headed by Lal Wijenayake also submitted their report to the Operations Committee on Constitutional Reforms.
Six sub committees are in operation to assist the operations committee to look into possible constitutional reforms.The six sub committees have been appointed to look into the areas of fundamental rights, state service, law and order, state finance, judicial and relations with local government bodies.
Neil Iddawela said the heads of the sub committees were also summoned by the Operations Committee for discussions. Accordingly, the release of an interim sub committee report is expected in August.
The Operations Committee on Constitutional Reforms headed by the Prime Minister is due to convene on August 5.
