The North Central Province Deputy Director of Education, who was injured when a group of persons hurled stones at a train bound to Anuradhapura on August 3, succumbed to the injuries later.
Another person was injured after stones were thrown at a Meenagaya train traveling from Batticaloa to Colombo on August 11.
Four suspects who allegedly pelted stones at a passenger train yesterday morning, were handed over to Kollupitiya Police by railway security officers.
Police said the stones had been pelted at a Mount Lavinia bound Colombo passenger train near the National Gem and Jewellery Authority in Kollupitiya. Police said nobody was injured in the incident.
Police said the suspects questioned by Kollupitiya Police, denied the allegations.
Investigations are continuing. The security for passenger trains had been tightened by the Railway Security Division in the wake of several incidents of pelting stones reported recently.
