Rishad Claims 1 Billion Damage From Lanka Deepa

During the period from 2010 to 2015.1.10  under Mahinda’s regime, , while there was ample stock of ponni rice in  CWE,  it purchased 98,375 metric ton of Ponni Rice. By purchasing this ponni rice 50 million loss was  caused to the Government. This incident took place not under the current Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen, under whose purview CWE comes.

 On Friday 26^th August 2016, Rishad appeared before the Presidential Commission on Bribery and Corruption on his own  and explained the circumstances under which alleged irregular Ponni rice import took place. Followed by this, he called  for a press conference and explained  what happened at the Presidential Commission. In this press conference he accused certain newspapers misconstrued the entire issue and blamed him for the irregularity. He said, that he would take legal action against this malicious publication.

 Followed by this, Rishad has sent letter of demand claiming 1 billion damage from the editor of Lanka Deepa for publishing an article on this irregular ponni rice import on 19.08.2016 thus  dragging his name in it.
