Current and former presidents’ lives threatened by extremists

A document tabled in the Parliament yesterday (23) notes that Security agencies have identified several threats by extremist and radical elements to the lives of former and current presidents.

It was noted that the former President Ms. Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga who at the time of her retirement was given 138 security personnel and currently it has been reduced to 66 security personnel.

Also noted was the increase of security personnel for former president Mahinda Rajapakse, at the time of his retirement he had 102 police security personnel and now it has been increased to 105.

Meanwhile the debate for amendments to be made for the Electoral System will be continuing today as well.
