Request to Increase Optional Retirement Age to 65 years

Jathika Seva Sangamaya (JSS), a trade union leaders affiliated to UNP has met the Finance Minister, Ravi Karunanayake to discuss the benefits and other privileges included in the 2017 budget for Public service employees.

At this discussion they made a request to consider extending the optional retirement of Public service employees from 60 years to 65 years in future.

Observers say if this request is granted, it will block promotions of thousands of employees and recruitment of thousands of youths thus increasing unemployment problem.
