Attorney General has filed a case in the High Court charging Former United People’s Freedom Alliance MP Tiran Alles, Rohan Saliya Weerawickramasuriya and Jayantha Dias for an unaccounted 200 million rupees of the Reconstruction and Development Agency. This money was given to RADA in order to provide relief to those affected by the Tsunami in the North-Eastern Province. But the expected relief has not reached Tsunami affected people in the North-Eastern Province.
Before this case was taken for inquiry, Tiran Alles filed a petition in the Supreme court to obtain preventive arrest warrant. The Supreme Court has granted interim injunction against his arrest for a specified period.
In the meantime, Attorney General wanted to issue charge sheet in the High Court. But the lawyer appearing on behalf of Tiran Alles argued that charge sheet cannot be issued while the Supreme Court interim Injunction order is in operation. In this instance, Attorney General argued that the Supreme Court decision only prevents arrest of him for a particular period. High Court Judge directed both parties to get the decision of the Supreme Court on this matter.
The bench chaired by Chief Justice determined that nothing prevents the High Court to issue charge sheet. When the case was taken up today charge sheet was issued and Tiran Alles remanded up to 10th November 2016.
