Opposition Government whip cum JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake has raised questions in Parliament yesterday under the clause 2 of standing order No 23.
He said in November 2013 , 250kg of heroine was detected in a container brought from Pakistan. Former Prime Minister’s Coordinating Secretary sent a letter to the customs to waive off customs duty in this connection. This incident pave way for the public to know the political backing involved in importing drugs.
On 24th November 2016 customs detected 200 kg of heroine worth 200 million inside sugar bags in a container imported from Brazil.
In all these instances only the detections are made known to the public, but there after what happens no one knows . If there is a strict security network to detect import of drugs, no businessman will dare to import drugs in Srilanka. He asked, how these drugs easily find their way to Srilanka without being detected at the country of export.
Strange thing is that though detention were made no one was arrested so far.
