No Increase in Electricity Charges – Siyambalapitiya

Speaking in the parliament the Minister Siyambalapitiya  recalled nearly 300 thousand houses did not have electricity when he took over the portfolio. However, there are only 15,000 houses to be supplied with electricity.

Certain media reports stated that electricity  charges to be increased. This is a false news.  A plan has been presented to cater the power requirement by year 2034.

 He  assured  the electricity bills will not be increased while ensuring continuous power supply. There is no power crisis in the country.

All households will be supplied with electricity before the 31st of this month.

The ministry of power has also implemented a programme to uplift the living status of the farmers. Under this, half rates will be charged from 10.30 pm to 5.30 am when farmers use electricity to obtain water for their farms.

Deputy Minister Ajith P.Perera who also spoke in the parliament said tenders will be called within next two month to construct 60 solar power plants throughout the country. Hydro power, wind and solar power which are renewable energy resources have been made tax free.

Facilities have also been granted to investors.
