Tress Passing Complaint Against Journalist at Hambantota Port
A group of employees of a private company contracted to supply workers to Hambantota Port were engaged in a protest demanding the government ensure them job security as the government prepares to lease the Port on shared basis to a Chinese firm.
The employees were charged of forcibly holding two ships that arrived at the Magampura Port while steps were taken by the Navy to release the ships on the advice of the government.
Premier Wickremesinghe directed the Navy Commander to clear the passage for free movement of foreign ships. A journalist from an electronic media organization attempted to enter the high security zone of the Megampura Port. The Navy Commander intervened and prevented him by using minimum force. This incident went viral in electronic and press media. In the meantime navy has lodged a complaint with the police that a particular journalist tried to enter high security zone area of the port without permission or approval by the authorities.
In response , Prime Minister said , that it was he who directed the Navy Commander to remove all obstacles. If any of the Navy personnel proved involved in an investigation, action will be taken against him, he concluded.
