Will the SLFP Secretary post goes to Chamal Rajapakshe?

Reports received revealed that some senior members of the SLFP are burning mid night oil to bring Mahinda and Maithree faction together, prior to the proposed forthcoming Local Government Elections. They propose to give Party Secretary Post to Chamal Rajapakshe prior to renegotiate reconciliation with Mahinda Rajapakshe. They are yet to take this proposal to the President.  If green light is shown by the President, in the forthcoming general election both factions will contest under one symbol. Another section in the SLFP feels by giving Secretary Post to Chamal Rajapakshe opportunity is being created to strengthen Mahinda’s hands. Another group in the SLFP says, that Chamal is a neutral man, who has not resigned from the SLFP hence, there is nothing wrong in considering him for the post of General Secretary.

Current SLFP Secretary is Minister Duminda Dissanayake. His family had maintained a close relationship with Mahinda. As North Central Provincial Council Chief Minister Post was not given to Duminda Dissanayake’s father Berty Premalal Dissanayake, friction was observed. Thereafter, when the Presidential election was called, Duminda Dissanayake joined Maithree faction and worked hard to make him as the President of Srilanka. It is only after regime change, that Duminda Dissanayake was appointed as Secretary of the SLFP by the President.

In view of the above facts, will the President dare to remove Duminda Dissnayake and appoint Chamal Rajapakshe as the Secretary of the SLFP is a 1000 dollar question? In the meantime SLFP central committee meeting is scheduled during this week to decide on important matters concerning the country, SLFP sources said.
