Fine Imposed for Operating Buses without a valid Route Permit & licence will be Increased

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva said, at the opening of the new bus depot in Vavuniya recently, the fine imposed for operating buses without a valid route permit and licence will be increased to
Rs 200,000 from its current limit of Rs 10,000.
He said, around 70 buses had been running without a valid route permit or licence from the National Transport Commission (NTC) and added that the Northern Provincial Council has been guilty of violating these laws. He added, tabs will be kept on those violating these laws henceforth.
 He added the enhanced fine will be approved by the Cabinet and implemented immediately in an effort to provide a smooth and comfortable public bus service.
