Disappearances of Two & Arrest of Former Navy Intelligence Head

In respect of  two individuals  disappeared in the year 2009 Hebeas Corpus cases were filed in the courts.  The CID investigating  the abduction of these two individuals has arrested a Lieutenant Commander, Dhammika Anil Mapa and remanded  him  on Court order. When the case was taken up today before the Colombo Additional Magistrate J. Trotsky,  Dhammika Anil Mapa was further remanded till February 9. The CID  informed the court today that another intelligence officer, former head of the Navy Intelligence, Rear Admiral Ananda Guruge  is also to be arrested in connection with the abduction and disappearances of two individuals in 2009.

The Defence argued that the van which was cut to 72 pieces reported to have been captured  during the war and bombs  concealed in it. Hence, it was cut into pieces. As the police rejected this argument stating there were bomb disposal units which could do this work,  Defence argument did not hold  water.
