An Indian fisherman was shot dead in the sea. Indian fishermen blamed Srilanka Navy firing and killing their comrade. This has created unrest among the fisher folk in India.
Sri Lanka navy has completely rejected the allegation and denied their involvement. The Srilankan Foreign Ministry after preliminary investigations said, that Sri Lanka navy did not shoot at Indian fishermen.
Issuing a communiqué the ministry noted that the safety of fishermen is important and the Srilanka government would act humanely . Further it reads that the government of Sri Lanka expresses its deepest regrets regarding the alleged shooting incident.
Investigations into the incident will be conducted with the aid of Indian officials and the help of satellite technology, statement concluded.
