Selfie Madness Takes Valuable lives on Railway Tracks

Railway Security Superintendent Anura Premaratna said yesterday, during the past five months at least 20 deaths have been reported near vulnerable places on railway tracks or stations, while the victims  attempted  to take selfie photos using their mobile phones or while engaged in conversations with their headphones plugged on.
He said most of the deaths had been reported  between Kollupitiya and Mt. Lavinia railway lines, especially during weekends. A Chinese girl had fallen off the train at Aluthgama recently,  when she tried to take a selfie from the foot board of a railway compartment. He said all these deaths had taken place due to the negligence of victims .
Legal action will be taken against those,  who violate  railway rules and walking on the track, he concluded.
In the meantime , on Sunday another incident took place  where a newly wedding couple attempted to take  a selfie photograph on the railway track at Kahawa, Uduwaragoda area in Ambalangoda  . In this incident a  24-year-old groom was killed and his bride seriously injured .
