President to Meet Residents Affected by Uma Oya Project Today
Residents of Bandarawela and surrounding villages, who have been badly affected by the Uma Oya Project had organized a harthal on Wednesday . The protesters claimed walls of over 7,000 houses have cracked while the wells in the area and water bodies have dried up.
Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure Harin Fernando said the President has agreed to hold a discussions with the front to hear their grievances.
The discussion is scheduled to take place between the Front against the Uma Oya Project and President Maithripala Sirisena. The discussion will take place at the Presidential Secretariat today.
