Govt. Cancelled Udayanga’s Passport But He Visited Foreign Countries ……

In reply to a question raised by JVP MP Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa,  Dr. Jayatissa, Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake said yesterday  in Parliament  that though the government had cancelled the Diplomatic Passport of former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunge, he had not returned it to the authorities. But,  he had visited Japan, Pakistan and Dubai with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa on several occasions recently.

Earlier, while answering a question raised by  same JVP MP Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, former Deputy Foreign Minister Harsha De Silva told parliament  that Weeratunge”s Diplomatic Passport was cancelled.But the Fort Magistrate last week ordered to suspend it.

In this instance Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa  asked whether the Deputy Minister had given wrong information and misled  parliament saying that it was cancelled. Minister Karunanayake in reply  said a detailed answer to the question would be given shortly.
