Production of “Bti”, the Vector Control Spray Begins by July 15th

The Private Company which has undertaken to locally produce of “Bti”, the Vector Control Spray is scheduled to start production by July 15^th. They have already submitted their specifications to Bio Power Lanka, Private Limited, a company promoting sustainable agriculture in the country.

The company had been involved in the local production of the Mosquito Larvae killing bacterium, Bacillus thuringiensis Israel ensis.

The Health Ministry was importing the Cuban Patented Bti from China at a higher cost, which stock has been maintained. On Presidents direction no orders are placed for fresh stock, but the local production process is accelerated.

Apart from using it to eradicate dengue, the spray that is effective for 2 weeks can be used to destroy breeding places of mosquitos carrying Malaria, Filariasis, and Chikungunya.
