Mounting Protest Against Hambantota – China Agreement Signed

On direction given by the prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe, an agreement leasing Hambantota Magampura Habour on 95 years lease was signed between Srilanka and China today (29). However, mounting protest against is obvious. J.V.P leader Anurakumara Dissanayake publicly said, that the President should use his powers to stop this agreement to prove that he not a puppet of PM Ranil Wickremasinghe. He further said, although the agreement is signed they will not allow implementation. National Freedom Front Deputy Leader Jeyantha Samaraweera said, that the cabinet paper submitted in connection with the agreement contains several contradictions. He compared signing of this agreement as betrayal of the country, which is similar to JR Jeyawardena signed an agreement with India and betrayed Srilanka.

In the meantime Colombo Port employees staged a protest demonstration in Colombo against signing this agreement today (29) and burned a coffin during it.
