Decision on No Confidence Motion Against RK by Party Leaders Today
President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe reported to have met and discussed about issues concerning Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake on Friday. However, sources close to Karunanayake denied alleged meeting of President and Premier on Friday as well as reports that Foreign Minister has been asked to resign over allegations of nexus between him and Perpetual Treasuries CEO Arjun Aloysius, who is being probed over irregularities concerning trading of Treasury Bonds.
The Party Leaders are scheduled to meet today at 2.00 p.m. in Parliament to decide on the no confidence motion submitted by 32 MPs. In case, if Party Leaders decide to go ahead with the no confidence motion, Ravi Karunanayake is expected to make a statement in Parliament and step down in a move to facilitate completion of the probe rather than taking any responsibility for the Bond fiasco.
