Online Payment of Fines for Traffic Offences in Future

Police Media spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said, that complaints continued to be received from drivers regarding the methodology now followed in collecting fines and releasing driving licence. Under current situation, if a driver is caught for a traffic offence, police issue a fine notice and confiscate the driving licence. Driver concerned has to go to a post office and pay the fine. Thereafter, he has to take the payment receipt to the respective police station and produce to get his licence back. This process has not only consumed time and energy of a driver but make him frustrated.

Hence, steps have been taken to switch on to a new system, where the driver can pay the fine then and there through online and get back his licence. This new system will be introduced soon said, Ruwan Gunasekera.
