IGP Orders Probe of Students Cheating at O/L to be Handed over to the CID

Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the   investigation regarding G.C.E.( O L )  students using mobile phones and   Viber  techniques .
The mobile phone and answer scripts used by a student who attempted to cheat at the GCE Ordinary Level examination using the Viber messaging application were confiscated by police personnel earlier today (19).
Police spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara stated that the police launched an investigation into a complaint that a student was utilizing a mobile phone to cheat at the O/Level mathematics paper held yesterday (18).
It was reported that a student from an examination centre in Anuradhapura was using the Viber messaging application to obtain answers for the paper that was held on Monday.
Following the incident the police stated that the incident will be probed under the supervision of the Ministry of Education.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Education stated that student from a prominent school in Colombo was also questioned over using a mobile phone at the mathematics paper yesterday (18).
