Meethotamulla Garbage Dump Report Submitted

 The President’s Media Division said the Presidential Committee investigating the damage caused following the collapse of the Meethotamulla garbage dump has handed over its report to President Maithripala Sirisena  at his official residence .

The  report said to have blamed  the Colombo Municipal Council for  failing to implement a proper procedure and the proposals that were presented as solutions.

The Committee has also included short-term and long-term recommendations to maintain the Meethotamulla dump. The report has also noted the importance of setting up a central institution for the management of garbage in the Western Province.

The Committee has pointed out that the payments made to the external institutions for the Kolonnawa and Meethotamulla garbage collection have increased exponentially in 2015 and 2016.
