Land Slide Victory For SLPP – JO

Mahajana Eksath Peramuna leader, MP Dinesh Gunawardena representing JO making his observation about the land slide victory of the SLPP party in the LG election said,  this is the first time  a new political party had  defeated both the leading political parties in Sri Lanka’s political history . He added that not only the villagers, but people in most of the towns and cities have also placed their trust and confidence in the SLPP.

He made these observations yesterday during a press conference held at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna party head office, Jayanthipura, Nelum Mawatha, Battaramulla. MP Dinesh Gunawardena also thanked the people of the country for voting the SLPP and asked them to enjoy the victory peacefully.

He also said that it is moral for the government led by the two political parties to give up power since they have been rejected by the people.

SLPP leader Prof. G.L. Peiris stated that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has been defeated like this in the past  but only under the present leadership. He said it was also moral for him to give up the party leadership as well. He pointed out even the people of the Polonnaruwa district have placed their confidence with the SLPP as it had won with more a 5,000 vote majority.
