Decentralized Budget to MPs doubled

 

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told the Parliament yesterday that the new government has decided to increase the decentralized budget for Parliamentarians by two fold.

The Premier made this revelation immediately after the newly elected members took oath as members of the eighth Parliament before Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said that as members are elected by the people, it is the duty of all Parliamentarians to fulfill the aspirations of the people. The MPs have to serve the voters with the money allocated to them through the decentralized budget. He added due to this reason the government will increase the decentralize budget.

The Prime Minister also said this money is also given to all members to work with a consensus.

A sum of Rs 5 million was allocated annually to MPs to provide the serve the people in the area he or she represents.
