Loss of party leader status disturbs Gammanpila

Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) General Secretary Udaya Gammanpila stated today the decision to deprive him of the status of a political party leader in parliament was wrong.

Parliament decided not to recognise Mr. Gammanpila, Wimal Weerawansa and Vasudeva Nanayakkara as leaders of their respective parties but as members of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

Being a part of the UPFA would deprive them of the privileges enjoyed by Party Leaders. Mr. Gammanpila said the decision was not in keeping with parliamentary tradition.
