Fox abruptly cancels “Prodigal Son”

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – Fox has cancelled the Tom Payne and Michael Sheen-led TV series “Prodigal Son” after two seasons.

The news of its axing comes just a little over a week ahead of the second season finale on May 18th, that episode will now serve as the series finale.

The series followed Malcolm Bright (Payne), a criminal profiler who knows how killers think because his father Dr. Martin Whitly (Sheen) was a notorious serial killer. Now he’s helping the NYPD solve their most puzzling murders.

Lou Diamond Phillips, Aurora Perrineau, Frank Harts, Keiko Agena, Halston Sage and Bellamy Young co-star while Alan Cumming and Catherine Zeta-Jones had key roles in the current season.

Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver created the series and also serve as executive producers, showrunners and writers. Reports suggest ratings weren’t good enough to justify a third season. Fox’s upfronts presentation will be held on May 17th.
